TÜBA and TÜBİTAK Awards found their owners

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Er, faculty member of the METU Faculty of Education, was awarded within the scope of TÜBA GEBİP; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Acar, faculty member of the METU Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was awarded within the scope of TÜBİTAK Science, Special, Service and Incentive Awards. Er and Acar received their awards at the TÜBA and TÜBİTAK Science Awards Ceremony held on December 18, 2024.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Er, faculty member of the Department of Computer and Educational Technologies Education, Faculty of Education, METU, was one of 25 people who were awarded within the scope of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Outstanding Young Scientist Award Program (GEBİP).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Er conducts comprehensive interdisciplinary research by combining theoretical foundations in educational sciences with computer science methods. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Er, who conducts projects on the use of data science and machine learning techniques in designing effective interventions in education, has important publications in this field. Recently, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Er has focused on his research on the effective use of artificial intelligence in learning. In his research supported by the TÜBA GEBİP award, the training of generative artificial intelligence based on learning theories so that it can provide effective feedback to students and the effects of artificial intelligence feedback on learning will be examined. Within the scope of this project, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Er aims to develop various artificial intelligence tools that can be used in different areas of education and to reveal the effects of these tools through scientific experiments.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Acar, faculty member of the Department of Biological Sciences of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of METU, was awarded within the scope of the 2024 TÜBİTAK Science, Special, Service and Incentive Awards.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Acar was awarded the TÜBİTAK Incentive Award in the field of Basic Sciences for his outstanding international studies on the development of cellular barcoding technology, tumor organoid biobank and digital pathology platforms in the Molecular Biology and Genetics Program.

About TÜBA GEBİP Awards

TÜBA GEBİP Awards have been given since 2001 to reward and encourage highly successful young scientists working in the fields of nature, engineering, health sciences and social sciences to continue their scientific studies in Turkey, to form their own working groups and to award and encourage internationally qualified projects and publications originating from Turkey. Within the scope of the original and highly demanded program, award winners are provided with financial support of 125 thousand liras each year for three years.

About TUBITAK Awards

TÜBİTAK Science, Special, Service and Incentive Awards; are given every year to support TÜBİTAK's research and development activities in scientific and technological fields and to provide opportunities for the training and development of scientists and researchers.

TÜBİTAK Incentive Award; is given to scientists resident in Turkey who have proven that they have the qualifications to make significant contributions to science at an international level in the future with their work, and who are not older than 40 on the first day of the year in which the award is given.
